Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Gurukul Dharma platform at gurukuldharma.com and our mobile applications (the "Service"), operated by Gurukul Dharma ("Gurukul Dharma," "we," "us," or "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Gurukul Dharma is a spiritual education platform. We provide interactive lessons, guided practices (japa, meditation, puja), historical explorations, and AI-assisted learning tools to support your study of Sanatana Dharma.

2. Educational Purpose and Content Disclaimer

The content on Gurukul Dharma is provided for educational and informational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy and draw from authentic scriptural sources, scholarly works, and traditional teachings:

  • We are not a religious authority. Our content does not represent the official position of any sampradaya, temple, institution, or guru. Different traditions may hold varying interpretations of the same texts and practices.
  • Content may be simplified. For educational clarity, we sometimes present condensed or introductory versions of complex philosophical concepts. These should not be taken as complete or definitive treatments.
  • Historical content reflects current scholarship. Historical dates, attributions, and interpretations may evolve as scholarship advances. We present what is reasonably supported but do not guarantee absolute historical accuracy.
  • Practice guidance is general. Our meditation, japa, and puja guides are general introductions. For serious sadhana, we encourage you to seek guidance from a qualified guru or teacher in your tradition.

3. AI Learning Assistant Disclaimer

Gurukul Dharma uses artificial intelligence to power certain features, including interactive tutoring and practice guidance. You should understand:

  • AI is not a guru. Our AI learning assistant is a software tool, not a spiritual authority. It cannot replace the relationship with a living teacher or the guidance of a qualified guru.
  • AI responses may contain errors. AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or reflect biases in its training data. Always verify important claims against primary sources.
  • AI does not provide personal spiritual advice. The AI assistant can explain concepts and answer factual questions, but it is not qualified to provide personalized spiritual counsel, life guidance, or prescriptions for specific spiritual practices.

4. Account and Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Children ages 6 through 12 may use the Service through a Bala mode account created and managed by a parent or legal guardian. See our Privacy Policy for details on children's data.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You agree to notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Share, reproduce, or distribute our content (lessons, images, guided practices, or other materials) without our written permission, except for personal, non-commercial use.
  • Misrepresent our content as official religious doctrine or institutional guidance.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code, AI models, or algorithms used in the Service.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service without our written permission.
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users, or post content that is hateful, threatening, or discriminatory.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely claim an affiliation with any guru, temple, or institution.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers, or its networks.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.

6. Subscriptions and Payments

Some features of the Service require a paid subscription. By subscribing, you agree to the following:

  • Billing. Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on the plan you choose). Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc.
  • Free trials. If we offer a free trial, you will not be charged until the trial period ends. You may cancel before the trial expires to avoid charges.
  • Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to paid features until then.
  • Refunds. Payments are generally non-refundable, except where required by applicable law. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, contact us and we will review your request in good faith.
  • Price changes.We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes take effect at the start of your next billing period after the notice.

7. Intellectual Property

All content, software, designs, trademarks, and other materials on the Service are owned by or licensed to Gurukul Dharma and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial educational purposes. This license does not include the right to reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, or create derivative works from our content.

Traditional scriptural texts (Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and similar public domain texts) quoted within the Service remain in the public domain. Our original commentary, translations, lesson structures, illustrations, and software are proprietary.

8. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of any content you create on the Service (notes, bookmarks, responses). By submitting content, you grant us a limited license to store and display it as necessary to provide the Service to you. We will not use your personal content for marketing or share it publicly without your consent.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
  • We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
  • In no event shall Gurukul Dharma, its officers, directors, employees, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
  • Our total aggregate liability for all claims related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Gurukul Dharma and its officers, directors, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and notify you by email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service.
